Coleman Taylor designs and hand-paints its artisanal fabrics in a small, neatly-kept historic cottage in Montgomery, Alabama. The company was founded in 2012 by Jan Hale and Crystal Walker who desired to produce fine textiles on a small and personal scale, honoring the Southern tradition of exceptional handmade goods and warm hospitality.
Workshop tools, architectural sketches, archived documents and antique textiles in the studio create the perfect environment for collaboration to transform images into distinctive repeatable designs. A proprietary paint formula has been developed that begets an exceptionally soft hand and a rich pearlized glow, unmatched in the industry. The first designs were stenciled on linen, the classic fabric of the Deep South, which is found in everything from vintage men’s suits to French hand sewn dresses. Hand-painted velvet was launched in 2013, and beautiful wools were added in 2014.
Coleman Taylor has a deep appreciation for timeless and luxurious fabrics that work well in any décor. Fabrics are sold to the trade only, with custom patterns available.
Jan Hale has a degree in interior design from the Art Institute Atlanta, and a BFA from Auburn University of Montgomery. She has been in the interiors business for 32 years.
